Drivers Accused A.M.A for Extorting Money

Some Drivers of Ghana Private Road Transport Union at Kaneshie have descended heavily on the Accra Metropolitan Assembly taskforce personnel at the Kaneshie branch for extorting monies from them. The drivers claim, when they park at the bus stop to pick passengers or stop for passengers to alight, the taskforce personnel clamp their vehicles and issue traffic tickets as a penalty for unauthorized parking.
 

According to the drivers, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly taskforce personnel at the Kaneshie branch is disturbing and denying them of peace to work in the area at Kaneshie station. These aggressive drivers complained that, the monies extorted from motorist and a driver by the A.M.A is not used for its purpose. They indicated that, any driver found in this unauthorized parking zone is issued a traffic ticket. They are supposed to pay fifty-six Ghana cedis as penalty. Some of the drivers and hawkers spoke to TV Africa news.

According to the Richmond Tieku, said yesterday he was driving from Mallam junction to Accra and discover fault on vehicle to call engineer to work on his vehicle, the Accra Metropolitan Assembly taskforce personnel has clamp is vehicle. He stated that, he explained to the personnel about the fault he has discovered but they refuse to understand him.

The TV Africa news follows the story to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Kaneshie branch to talk to the officer in charge but he refused to talk on the issue. The officer’s given as Mr.Ampomah said we should talk to the Mayor of Accra, Alfred Oko Venderpuyie to explain
