The Ghana Protection Agency has chosen the month of March as its consumer awareness month and will observe every year. Consumer Protection which is observed worldwide works to eliminate unfair or deceptive market place practices in terms of product quality and efficient service delivery.
The awareness programme which is on the theme, “Ensuring the passage of the Consumer Right Bill” will provide individuals, communities and businesses to interact and share ideas on consumer protection in the country. Programmes and activities earmarked for the celebration will begin with a float through the principal streets of Accra, TV discussions among others.
The objective of the consumer protection agency is to strengthen and support the development of industry standards and mechanisms for addressing abuses of consumer rights. the Chief Executive Officer for the consumer Protection Agency, Kofi Kapito said it was sad that a country like Ghana do not have a consumer law.
The Consumer protection agency said it believes that an informed consumer in the best interest of business and service providers should be able to make right decisions and therefore will make a repeat purchase or recommend to others for their products or service and therefore boosting their profit margins in the process.
