RISKY LIVES

Hundreds of lives in the city are under serious risk as they continue building and working under Volta River Authorities pylons or high tension poles. This situation has become chronic as most claim that is their temporal environment.

The issue of living under high tension poles is illegal but people do not pay heed to the illegalities but rather settle under them. These pylons with high voltage is a threat to human health as waves radiated from them cause cancer. Also the probability of a fallen cable like this one is high. This is not even a live wire as the Electricity Company of Ghana is carrying out repair works on them. The question is what happens if it were to be a live wire? This is how people are putting their lives into serious risk in the city. Most of the settlers TVA Africa News spoke to say it is only a temporal place; they are just there to make little money and settle at a better place later.

Living and working under the pylons is a hallmark of Dzorwulu, Ebony, Odoko Official Town, Kanashie, Alajo and Legon. This structures marked remove by the railway corporation and GRIDCO still exist right under this pylon. The Kotobabi lorry station is also situated under this pylon posing threats to passengers, drivers and mates. Other activities such as wood selling all take place under these pylons. Even though these settlers have been warned with signs such as these and by the Volta River Authority they still put up structures under or near them. Revelations reveal that mechanics are the most people who occupy these places.
